How Iain.macaskill started their web page design journey
Who are you known as?
We need a new skin for SuperReading
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
The site is a training program teaching the SuperReading technique, over 6-8 weeks Players read three passages of specially formatted text each day learning how to change the way they read. This program is especially helpful for dyslexics as it changes how the reader encounters the text so our site has to be clean and simple to aid bandwidth for mobile and devoid of clutter to reduce distraction, think clean, stylish and fast over air.
Our target audience is 18-24 year old students working on touch devices, tablets and smartphones.
We are coming to the end of our Kickstarter Campaign which we held to raise the funds for this part of our development.
What do you have in mind for the style and theme of the web page?
I see this site being used extensively on mobile, tablets and phones so fiddly menus will frustrate users who're using the site three times a day for 12 weeks.
I want to step away from the straight line menu across the top, a swipe in feature or a button to expose the a menu that then dominates the whole screen and is therefore more easy for the user to read and engage with is an attractive idea.
We are looking for simplicity, colours that will work well with beautiful buttons and tabs that all come together to form a whole.
The site is purposefully simple as our clients will be working on mobile devices. We need the site to be a pleasure and for our users to want to come back three times a day, please note on mobile the site only presently works in landscape view.
Focus on redesigning the loged out and loged in homepages to show your idea for a new skin as dispayed on a 7" tablet and a smartphone, Landscape view only. We will then take the theme of that design and apply it across the whole site, the structure/content of those pages will not be changing so really it'll just be the colour scheme and the menu form the home page we'll be adding to those pages which must become a pleasure to look at and use.
We need a beautiful new skin and some stylish menu's, we do not wish to change the content nor the structure of the content within the site, apart from the homepage its open to anything.
I have attached a Site Map and screenshots of each page on the site so you can see how our simple little site for mobile works.
We are open to new logo's, home page banners and occasional vector based flourishes.
Please note that within the Eye-Hop texts and the Reading Effectiveness pages the Player can set the text colour and background to their own colour settings.
What to avoid
Crazy Whizz Pop distractions that are heavy on bandwidth.
remember this site is responsive so the design will have to look good on mobile and tablets
