How dean w started their web page design journey
Who are you known as?
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
We sell small sailboats, replacement parts, and accessories. Target audience is worldwide, white male 40 to 80, upper middle income, sailors or thinking about learning to sail. We need a design "shift" from brochure style to ecommerce style as we are adding 6,000 parts to our store. We want our site to look very different from what it is now, and also very different from our competitors who sell sailboat parts.
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
What do you have in mind for the style and theme of the web page?
tropical - blue, teal, sand, green. Relaxing feel. Would like to consider hand drawn elements. If you google "Beach Bar menu designs" you will get a sense of what could be fun with a tropical, beach, ocean, vacation kind of feel.
If you were to arrive at this homepage and had an interest in sailing, what words would you like to see? If you were looking for a particular part for your boat, what would you like to see?
We anticipate having this site built in Magento Community version.
The homepage should tell the person this site is about sailing but not scare you away if you don't sail. "the sailing lifestyle" needs to be the focus. Will ultimately need about 25 pages, but want to find a designer who has the right design theme for us.
What to avoid
complex, technical, sophisticated. Our competitors, which we DON'T want to look like are mauriprosailing.com and jamestowndistributors.com and defender.com
We want to emphasize "other sailboat parts" as we will be carrying the full line of Harken and Ronstan parts (about 6,000 sku's) which are appropriate for all types of sailboats. But we also want to feature our own line of sailboats and accessories. So the visitor should have clear choice for branded WindRider vs other.
I like the brand image of Trader Joes with their casual hand drawn elements which makes one feel relaxed and welcome.
