FantasyData got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Design a website for a sports data company
Check out FantasyData's Web page design contest…
We sell sports statistics for use within the fantasy industry. We deliver them from our database to companies that use them within their web and mobile applications. Our target client is a profitable media company, looking for a sports data provider. We want our website to represent a company that is well established, trustworthy, and stable.
We included wireframes of the two pages that we need developed. Our new website will have a split-branding. Our main website will cater to the B2C aspect of our business, and this design is already completed (see attachment: b2c.png). We are asking you to design the API Solutions portion of our website, which is essentially a separate microsite. This microsite represents the B2B portion of our business, so it needs to look like a professional and stable company. The current plan is to have the primary color of the website be #263644 which is a professional dark blue. We found a bunch of US sports photos that we really like, that could be used as the background image on our new web pages. They are available at the dropbox link located in the text file of the contest attachments. Please don't use the Odell Beckham (#13 blue jersey catch photo) since this is used in our B2C website. These are just photos that I found that I liked. I don't think all of them lend themselves well to be a background photo on a website. But I think the images in the snow, wide-angle shots, and sunset stadium photos work the best. We created wireframes for both web pages that we need designed. We need the API Solutions home page designed (see attachment: b2b-home.png). We also need the NFL Coverage page designed (see attachment: b2b-nfl.png). There is a sporting event lifecycle piece as well, that is going to be included on a lot of pages on our website, so it's critical to the overall design. More on the this below.
What to avoid
We are very open to ideas here, but you'll want to generally follow the wireframes, to get the basic content included in the design. Since were launching a split-branded website, we don't want the colors on the websites to cross over too much. It's fine if they share accent colors. But our B2C website uses the color #1493ff, so let's try not to use this color too much, since it's already committed to be used as the primary color of the B2C website. It's OK to use it as a subtle accent color if necessary.
On both pages, we have three tables with arrows connecting them (Pre-Game, Live, Post-Game). Basically, we'd like to indicate that this represents the lifetime of a sporting event from pre-game, to during the game, and after the game (this is why we put arrows in the wireframe). I don't know the best way to design this, but hopefully you can come up with something creative that looks nice and clean. Our ultimate vision for the sporting event lifecycle piece, is that it would be a sort-of infographic-like representation. It doesn't need to be all that sophisticated, like a real infographic, but even if we just use arrows to indicate the timeline, i think it would be a nice touch. Just to confirm, this portion is NOT interactive, just static. However, if you have ideas for it being interactive based on the user hovering their mouse over it (or something else), that could be super cool as well :-)
