Maarten Billemont got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Cryptographic identity platform needs sleek, minimalist page explaining high-privacy concepts
Check out Maarten Billemont's Web page design contest…
We are creating a decentralized cryptographic identity platform. "Spectre" is an algorithm and a set of applications on all computer platforms (desktop, mobile, web & hardware). It computes your login credentials for any site on-demand, without saving them anywhere. Your passwords are not saved on your computer or in a cloud, can never be lost, leaked, stolen or confiscated. Our target audience for this brief are privacy-conscious & aware individuals primarily.
We are looking for something: - Modern, clean and minimalist - Very thoughtful use of design paradigms to communicate complex concepts naturally & with exceptional simplicity - Engenders feeling of trustworthiness, transparency, openness, reliability, ease of use, simplicity.
- The lead (what is it): should be very simple and high-level, eg. an image, a tagline - Access (how do I get it): A trivial way to start using it, eg. an enticing link, a minimal web/interactive demo. - Capabilities (what does it do): a simple overview of how Spectre is unique and the paradigm shift in how you should think about passwords - Highlight key assets, free software (GPL), open source (GitLab), zero-trust (passwords/data/identity never leave your device), cryptographically secure (whitepaper) At this stage we are primarily looking for a well designed landing page. Please allocate for a navigation control, referring to in-page content, but allowing for additional pages to be added later.
What to avoid
Our preference is for Sketch designs, if that's an option for you. We will not be able to accept any designs that are: - Generic - Rely on stock images for the bulk of the design - Do not succeed in communicating about the difficult concepts of user privacy and algorithmically generated identities.
Note: This website if for an app called "Spectre", not "Master Password" (see the attached video for a demo of the Spectre app). Spectre will be replacing the existing app called "Master Password". It will include all the features that exist in "Master Password" but will become much more. Think of this Brief as a re-branding of an old app. Master Password is a deterministic password generation app (free on the App Store). Specte will augment its capabilities and evolve into a complete identity platform. Please see the old website for details on the "Master Password" product: https://masterpassword.app/ Two videos describe it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bItZWrYTiiI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTfA0O7YnHQ A white-paper describes the algorithm: https://masterpassword.app/masterpassword-algorithm.pdf Please reach out if we can help you get an understanding of the concepts. Our mood board: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PCtSModtQqIoWvV9dPXMbxGSbMg8Nxba/view?usp=sharing Please don't feel constrained by the images, feel free to do something creative with whatever you choose to use.

It all began with a design brief.

When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.

And then… they selected a winner!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
