Attorney & Law
I am writing a series of legal checklists with explanations for entrepreneurs and small business owners. The first is titled “The Entrepreneur’s Legal Checklist: Starting a Business.” The book is a checklist of all the legal issues someone starting a business needs to address, along with explanations and choices for each item on the list. While I am not exclusively marketing to technology entrepreneurs, I think they are probably going to represent a large portion of the purchasers. I will be selling the books directly through the site. The URL will be www.EntrepreneursLegalChecklist.com.
I have uploaded a copy of the first book cover. I would like the design of the site and the book cover to work well together (or at least not clash). But they do not need to match. As a general rule, I like simple and uncluttered designs. I find pages with too much going on to be quite distracting.
Home Page The first section has some introductory information discussing the target audience and the problem being addressed. The second section will have information about the e-book, should use the cover image, and have a checkout button. Header The header will appear on all pages. It should contain links to Home, About/Contact, and Blog. There should be social media buttons too. If you want to use the book cover as the basis for an image in the header, that’s fine (but leave out the “Starting a Business” part - that’s just the first book). There’s no need to do a design for the About/Contact page and the blog. Footer The header will appear on all pages. It should contain a copyright notice and a link to Terms of Service/Disclaimer.
Here is the working text for the landing page. It is not the final text but should be enough to get everyone started. [First section] You have decided to start a business. Congratulations! Whether you are writing a killer app or starting a corner store, it’s an exciting time for you. I have never met an entrepreneur who regretted the decision to start their business. Since you are reading this site, I can predict a couple things about you. First, you know there are legal hoops to jump through when starting a business but you are not sure what they are. Second, you would rather not hire a lawyer. Maybe you are the do-it-yourself type. Or perhaps the couple-hundred-dollars-per-hour price tag is not an option for you before your business is up and running. Third, you are concerned about getting blindsided by a legal issue you have never heard of. It is the classic “you don’t know what you don’t know” scenario. Fortunately, it is possible to start your business without a lawyer and without falling victim to hidden legal traps. I wrote the Entrepreneur’s Legal Checklist: Starting a Business to address this situation. I am a software engineer-turned-attorney and have been involved with or advised in many startups. [Second section] The Entrepreneur’s Legal Checklist: Starting a Business Entrepreneur’s Legal Checklist: Starting a Business provides you with: (1) Dozens of legal issues identified; (2) Explanations and choices; (3) Sample forms and legal documents you can use; (4) Peace of mind free with every purchase. The Checklist is organized into two sections. First up is things you need to do if you are an employee somewhere while getting ready to start your business. This is an often overlooked part of the process that can cause expensive legal problems if not handled correctly. The second section is the formation of the business itself. I walk you through dozens of legal issues involved in starting a business, explain them and, when appropriate, provide a sample document you can use. Entrepreneur’s Legal Checklist: Starting a Business let’s you spend as little time and money as possible on legal issues so you can focus on what you do best. Purchase now to get the peace of mind you need to focus on growing your business!
