Description of the product
Premium quality handmade incense sticks and cones, made in the Himalayas. They're made with natural ingredients and come in 14 different scents (and counting). It will be sold online and in small independent shops and boutiques.
Description of the product target audience
Those who love burning incense and want to pay considerably more for a natural, handmade product which smells very different from the mass-produced chemical-based incense. Those who appreciate the stillness and mystery of nature (especially the forest!).
*** I have set the contest to blind to protect your original designs and get a wider range of different ideas. Please be assured that I have set aside plenty of time over the next week to provide comprehensive feedback on all the designs submitted. *** I need an elegant and spacious box design that will convey the high quality of the incense whilst still feeling natural and organic. This is an important balance because it should look equally at home in an organic store, festival stall, yoga studio or classy boutique. The scents are always changing as new ones are introduced and others are dropped, so this box design will be the same for all the scents, and I will use labels (which are to be included in the design) to distinguish. These will be printed separately and applied during packing. LABELS The front label will display the scent (e.g.: Handmade Sticks of Natural Jasmine Incense Handmade Cones of Natural Rose Incense ...and a short description (one long or two short sentences) - e.g. "Picked at night in moon-drenched gardens, Arabian Jasmine oozes a dreamy tranquillity and promotes good sleep." The rear label will contain the barcode. It should be at the bottom. Each scent has 2 barcodes - one for a 25g pack of sticks and one for a 40g pack of cones. "FOREST MYSTIC" THEME In almost every culture there are tales of wandering hermits who live in the forest. They lead a life of simplicity far away from the chaos of our cities and towns. They have chosen silence, solitude and contemplation. Nature feeds them, teaches them and guides them. They are often absorbed in higher states of consciousness. This is a primal archetype which many of us can resonate with when we sit quietly for some time in the forest. Immediately, a sense of harmony and inner connection returns to us. In our modern lives, many of us don’t feel that we have the time to be in Nature as much as we might like. Burning incense in our homes and places of work is one way we can create a peaceful atmosphere for relaxation or spiritual practice. I love illustration and storytelling and I think it would be wonderful to give the impression that the incense has been made by this mysterious character "The Forest Mystic". My image of him is an Indian sadhu or yogi from the Himalayas rather than a Western hermit - think bare-chested, sitting in lotus position rather than a cloak and stick! I also like the idea of a forest landscape in the design, either as an illustration or perhaps in a suggestive and subtle way... PRINT MATERIAL I am drawn to 350gsm Kraft card stock printed (on one side) with a single, dark colour and possibly gold foil. Kraft seems to be the "go to" for natural products. However, I am looking for a box which is distinctive, iconic and will look at home in high-end boutiques, so I am open to your suggestions on other materials. BOX DESIGN I have decided on an interesting "sleeve and tray" form for the box. I have uploaded a template cutting form and images of a sample to give an indication. Bear in mind that the design will be made into two different size boxes - one for cones and one for sticks. I'm sorry that I only have the cutting form for the box of sticks. I will need you to produce your own, in the same style, for the box of cones. I will need the artwork files for both, ready to hand over to the printers. It could be really nice to print the inside of the tray rather than the outside. Printing both sides of the tray is also an option. Please remember to include the tray in your designs! TYPEFACE The logo uses a vintage book style serif font, which I have uploaded. I am open to using serif, sans-serif or mixed fonts for the text on the labels and box. Gold foil is an option for heading text. TEXT TO INCLUDE On the rear of the box, there will be a paragraph about the origin of Forest Mystic incense and what makes it special. I will provide this around 21st Dec. There will also be the web address (www.forestmystic.com) and the weight of the pack (25g for sticks, 40g for cones).
What to avoid
A cluttered design. It should be simple, spacious and elegant.
