SamaUSA, a program operated under Samasource, which helps low-income community college students earn income through online work so they can graduate and forge a pathway out of poverty.
What's your vision?
We would like a "one-pager" about SamaUSA Goal: to educate our target audience about SamaUSA The target audience is: Donors, potential partners, supporters Brand colors: Red The one-pager should contain the following information, feel free to be creative with how the information, data and photos are presented. The one-pager should definitely have the SamaUSA logo, which is attached to this brief. SamaUSA helps low-income community college students earn income through online work so they can graduate and forge a pathway out of poverty. The need: Of the 7.1 million community college students in the United States, 5 million are unable to pay tuition costs and drop out. Tuition eats up 40% of yearly income for a person in poverty. There are 4.5 million college students living in poverty in the United States. The SamaUSA Model: SamaUSA, a program operated under Samasource, helps low-income community college students earn income through online work so they can graduate and forge a pathway out of poverty. Our 10 week bootcamp: -Prepares participants to market themselves on online marketplaces -Teaches high-demand, market-aligned skills -Provides entreprenaurship, soft skills and digital literacy training required to be successful and competitive in today’s online job market We use cutting-edge education technology, hands-on coaching, work-based learning and strong partnerships to ensure that our students are successful. Those students that successfully complete the program will be awarded netbooks to ensure they have the tools and access to thrive in the digital work marketplace. Why online work? The online work sector grew to an estimated $1 billion in 2012 and currently provides hundreds of thousands of jobs. The number of online jobs has increased by up to 105% year over year, and these jobs pay an average of $20 per hour for workers in the United States, which is 275% more than the current federal minimum wage. Freelancers create competitive profiles on online work sites with work portfolios that highlight their skills and experience. Companies use these platforms to fulfill digital needs such as content writing and online customer service representation. Freelancers take advantage of these opportunities by submitting proposals to projects that suit them. The online work revolution is growing, and SamaUSA aims to connect thousands of students in communities with high poverty and unemployment across the country to this new world of work. Through SamaUSA, low-income students can access a new world of work and gain critical 21st century skills that will generate new sources of income and pathways out of poverty.
