Basketball Geelong will host the Australian Qualifying Event for the FIBA World 3on3 Pro Tour in June 2012.
This is the first 3x3 event to be conducted in Australia using the new FIBA 33 format.
More information about the FIBA 33 format can be found here:
Basketball Geelong require the development of an event logo for the "Whoosh at the Waterfron"t 3x3 event. Note we are flexible around the name of the event as well - so would consider other options.
The event logo will reflect the locality and wordmark of the event, drawing on a single “waterfront” Geelong theme. The logo should reflect the excitement and pace of 3x3 basketball.
The logo will be full colour, but able to be used in a single colour variant.
The logo will be square or close to square.
FIBA have identified the new 3x3 format as synchronous with urban, streetball themes. In general the new format is played outdoors and downtown, not in traditional stadiums.
The inclusion of the FIBA 33 event branding must also be incorporated which is included in the sample logos.
The logo will contain both a picture and wordmark.
The Geelong event logo will reflect this feel, and will, if possible, geographically identify Geelong via the use of a significant landmark or feature (provided).
Geelong is typified by its waterfront precinct, featuring several historical and cultural themes:
- the promenade, with historic baths and enclosed ocean swimming area
- the shark fin artwork on the waterfront
- an enclosed carousel
- the use of Bollards, which are spread along the waterfront, typifying Geelong’s history and personality.
The City of Greater Geelong is a major sponsor of this event.
While COGG do not need to be identified in the event logo, the Cities logo uses navy blue, a colour shared by the cities major sporting clubs (Geelong Football Club, Geelong Supercats) and Basketball Geelong.
Therefore navy blue is a key colour for the event logo.
A designer might also consider incorporating the cities blue ribbons, as typified in their logo, although this is not a requirement.
The City of Greater Geelong logo is provided.
The wordmark for the event is: Whoosh at the Waterfront or Waterfront Hoopfest.
This will be stylized and will be able to be used stand alone set apart from any graphic design, in both colour and black and white. It will not be common that the wordmark is separated but in some instances this will be required.
Creating a stylized “3x3” to sit alongside the wordmark but within the overall logo design is critical.
In addition, the identify words “Geelong 2012” must be used within the logo. This allows for this to be changed annually, without affecting the overall wordmark and picturemark.
