Help me get my studio properly branded as I move from an evenings and weekends artist to a full time professional. Brush Voodoo is a painting service for custom roleplaying game miniatures and wargaming armies. I design color schemes to the customer's specification and then paint and modify 38mm miniatures from manufacturers like Games Workshop and Reaper Miniatures. I video the painting process and also make tutorial videos to teach painting techniques to other hobbyists. Less frequently I will paint armies for Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 (usually 20+ models to a pre-designed colour scheme) My typical customer is a 20-50 year old male gamer with plenty of disposable income. They may be a painter themselves, but they don't really have the time to sit down and paint their stuff at the moment. Often they have been roleplaying with a character for a long time, and want to see their hero come to life in miniature form. They tend to be into nerd culture, play video games and know a fair bit about history. They probably own several collectors editions of games, comics and movies. They tend to collect other things too (swords, models, dice) They have a smart phone (probably android) and they are very tech literate- comfortable using all sorts of apps. They sneer at 'overtly hipster' lifestyle stuff like lumberjack chic, uber eats and fancy mustaches but love intelligent tech, kickstarter and steam. Here are two gaming brands they love using: http://wyrmwoodgaming.com/ https://www.heroforge.com/
I want to project a sense of craftsmanship, of the bespoke nature of the work. This is not about mass production of plastic toys, this is about beautiful little works of art. Please don't be influenced by the Games Workshop or Reaper Miniatures logos. They are too heavy and dated for my taste. Stay away from that Lord of the Rings movie font or any dwarf runes stuff. I picked 'Voodoo' for the sense of mystery/magic. A really well painted miniature should look like it was done by witchcraft! No brushstrokes or evidence of the human hand- just something amazing. Feel free to play with magic/ mystical/ vodun imagery. Most of my customers spend half their free time pretending to be wizards, so its not going to scare them off. This logo will need to work at small scale (think deck of cards) Many of my customers are dyslexic and some are various types of colour blind so high contrast, easy to comprehend font and limited palette are important. If it ends up being just black and white I am fine with that!
