We're looking for a clean, simple design where the tagline of "bridging city and campus" isn't taken too literally. Also, it should be obvious that the acronym UCSC stands for University Community Service Center.
On a broader note, we may need a symbol that translates well to website, letterhead, T-shirt, and print materials and the symbolic city and bridge ideas stand on their own.
It may be interesting to consider the words "The University of Chicago" and "bridging city and campus" in the same font or color, and similarly the words "UCSC" and "University Community Service Center" so there's a unified feel but there's also contrast.
The image of the Chicago skyline doesn't work because our notion of city and communities expands beyond the downtown area. It includes the entire city.
The other University of Chicago offices that we like as far as logo design are the Institute of Politics and the Logan Center for the Arts. The symbol stands alone, but it can also be attached to the office name and its association with the University of Chicago.
