Chew on This — Canine Wisdom for Everyday Leaders
Steve Melson, a faith-based leader and consultant with more than 35 years experience in nonprofit leadership, draws from both his professional expertise and life-long fascination with dogs to share insight and advice on becoming an exemplary leader. He describes the essentials of building trust, the pivotal role and characteristics of good communication, how to create genuine connection with others, the value of perspective and patience, tips for being an adaptable leader, and the need to cultivate self-control, courage, compassion, perseverance, resilience, forgiveness, and gratitude.
Steve Melson’s professional path has been guided by a desire to help others and a talent for discovering the unique strengths and abilities of his colleagues and teammates. He has served in faith-based nonprofit leadership for more than thirty five years, including ministerial leadership in seven churches. In his current role as a corporate chaplain with Marketplace Chaplains in Dallas-Fort Worth he provides personal and proactive employee support for companies nationwide. He has also served as Director of Advancement (U.S.) for Open Arms International—a ministry serving orphaned and abandoned children in Kenya, and been the Associate Pastor at the 13,000-member main campus of Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas. In addition to his professional accomplishments he is a highly experienced dog trainer. He and his certified therapy dog, Molly, volunteer their time to offer support and comfort at Ronald McDonald House, and throughout the community.

What to avoid
We'd like to see a dog at work or at play and not at rest. Any dogs depicted should not be sleeping or inattentive. Avoid using images of people where their face is prominent. We don't want other people to draw the focus away from our author.
