jeff.garland got their new book cover by running a design contest:
Creating an impactful cover design for my first book - 'Split Second' about my policing experiences

Attorney & Law
My book, 'Split Second' is about my experiences within the NSW Police Force, battles with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression, thoughts of suicide, medical discharge and road to recovery. It provides an invaluable insight into life as a police officer as well as a unique perspective on how to cope, encouraging support and education and promoting change...
What's your vision?
I am after a design for the cover of my book which includes the front, back and spine. The cover is 6 inch x 9 inch It will have an estimated 300 pages with a 1.5cm spine You can use different colours as well but would like to see these colours used - black, white, grey, blue, red I don't want these colours used - pink, purple, green Can the cover be like an electric blue with black - not too much black please If you are going to use police tape on the cover can it be the blue and white checkered one with no writing please Outline: Front Cover: title: "SPLIT SECOND" (all capital letters), subtitle: "Real Life Experiences From Behind The Thin Blue Line" (capital first letters only) author: Jeffrey C Garland (bottom of cover) Back Cover: Title: middle top of page but smaller text leave space for barcode - 1.25x1 inch bottom right There will be a photo/headshot of the author on back cover (1-1.5 x 1 inch) with blurb - both will be attached I will also include two sentences for a bio-line. The Title and Authors Name on the spine - top to bottom - text face left not right - reads down not up The Publishers logo (GIP) is to go on the spine down bottom - here is the link - please use logo with white background - not brown - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5gtorjofz2dl7un/AAAXUOcezBWszvsAL7IcXIera?dl=0
I have a few ideas on the cover concept but am open for suggestion. I would like to include the photo of me in back of Ute as well as maybe a clock/stopwatch which references the title "Split Second" - The book is called Split Second because that is how long an officer has to make a decision which could save or end someones life, to arrest or investigate... Maybe have the image of the ute faded in the back but still visible?? Can the images flow from front to back cover? Maybe there could also be some words floating around the cover like PTSD, courage, honour, integrity, hope, family, resilience, pride, dedication, acceptance, awareness, support, gratitude, help, MATES, change the way we think, help a mate before its too late, etc - maybe in yellow in cursive handwriting? Because the book relates to policing you could use the glow of the red/blue lights of police vehicle, the blue police crime scene tape - no writing on it
