A House Divided: Engaging the Issues Through the Politics of Compassion
Rev. Mark Feldmeir is Sr. Pastor at St. Andrew UMC in Highlands Ranch, CO. He previously served churches in San Diego and Orange County, CA.
How do Christians engage today's most controversial political issues respectfully and faithfully? In today’s heated conversations about society and politics, Christians often disagree vehemently on the issues. Immigration, LGBTQ+ inclusion, racism, health care, climate change; sometimes we feel like we’re not reading the same Bible or following the same God. Is there any common ground for Christians to stand on to engage today’s controversial issues faithfully? Is it possible that Scripture, centuries of Christian tradition, and our personal and collective faith experience can help us find unity and common ground as we seek a better way to talk about and resolve some of the most divisive social and political issues of our day?
Christian pastors and church leaders, as well as everyday Christians in the pews. Age: 35-65, politically diverse (conservative/liberal), split evenly between men and women, .
Book cover type
Book cover is 5.5x8.5. The category is religion and politics. We have a starting image we'd like to work with, see below. We can see this image being used in a number of creative ways for a cover design. Feel free to be creative, but we're looking for a cover that is contemporary feeling (as are the issues being engaged), spiritual, healing, and hopeful. This is book to help us talk through the controversial issues with disagree on as Christians, with the love ethic as the center of the bible as the common ground/starting place.
